What kind of charger should I use for the 120Ah XB Slimline Lithium Battery?

You must use a battery charger with a specific LiFePO4 (Lithium) charging profile. The charger should have a maximum charge voltage of approximately 14.4V and must not exceed the battery's maximum continuous charge current of 120A. All KickAss AC-DC and DC-DC chargers are compatible.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

My 120Ah XB Slimline Lithium Battery is flat and won't charge. What should I do?

The internal Battery Management System (BMS) may have activated Under Voltage Protection (UVP) because the voltage dropped below 10V. This is a safety feature to protect the battery from damage. To recover it, you need to use a compatible charger with a lithium activation or recovery mode.

  1. Method 1 (Recommended): Use a KickAss AC charger with a dedicated "Lithium Recovery Mode".
  2. Method 2: Connect the battery to a KickAss DCDC Charger. Our DCDC chargers have an automatic lithium recovery function that will wake the battery once it detects a charging source from the vehicle's alternator.

Note: Always disconnect all loads from the battery before attempting recovery.

How should I store the Lithium Battery if I'm not using it for a while?

If storing for an extended period, fully charge the battery first. To maintain its health and service life, it is recommended to fully charge it every three months. Store it in a cool, dry location between -20°C and 45°C.

Why is the 120ah XB Slimline Lithium Battery not charging when connected to a charger?
  1. Confirm your charger is set to a LiFePO4 / Lithium profile.
  2. Check for BMS Protection: The battery may be in a protected state (e.g., Under Voltage, Over Temperature).
    • If the battery voltage is below 10V, follow the lithium recovery steps outlined above.
    • If the ambient temperature is below 0°C or above 60°C, the BMS will prevent charging. Move the battery to a location within its operational temperature range and allow it to cool down before attempting to charge again.
  3. Ensure all cable connections at the battery terminals and the charger are clean, tight, and secure.
